Sam Fender meets hero Alan Shearer

Sam Fender lived what he called “the best day of my life” to date when he was visited by his boyhood hero Alan Shearer.

The Geordie artist, who’s a massive Newcastle United fan, was surprised by the legendary number 9 as he was warming up for a hometown show at North Shields’ King Street Social Club.

Helped organised by the team at Shoot Music (along with the BBC and Polydor Records), Fender and Shearer discussed their love for the Magpies and the deeper meaning of his songs.

Shearer signed the musicians guitar and also awarded him with the number one album trophy, with his debut offering ‘Hypersonic Missles’ having taken top spot on the same day.

The fifth debut album to top the Official UK Albums Chart this year, it features singles ‘That Sound’, ‘Will We Talk’, ‘Dead Boys’, ‘Play God’, ‘The Border and, of course, ‘Hypersonic Missles’.

Aired on BBC Two’s MOTDx on Thursday October 3, you can watch the full feature in full on BBC iPlayer.
